Meet the Winemaker

Shelley completed her winemaking degree in 1999, making her first wines at Haselgrove Wines in McLaren Vale. It was the start of a connection to the region that has grown into a broader passion for South Australia's history and varietals. Like most young winemakers, she was lured overseas to complete vintages in France and California. Shelley returned to McLaren Vale in 2008, commencing her work with Jackson Family Wines' Yangarra Estate Vineyard.

At RockBare, Shelley showcases the unique growing conditions across South Australia and the variety of each parcel of fruit. Passionate about food and wine, she crafts approachable, fresh and vibrant wines that fit today's lifestyle of enjoying fresh food from the land and great wine shared with family and friends.

The Best of South Australia

From where vines meet the sea in McLaren Vale, to the fertile red soils of Clare Valley and beyond, we work directly with family-owned vineyards and growers to produce our award-winning wines. Many have been part of the RockBare journey since we took our first steps 20 years ago. Our first wine – a Shiraz from a vineyard near Port Willunga where rugged rocks flank the shore – was the inspiration behind our name.

The Jackson and Valmorbida partnership brings together two iconic wine families across as many continents. Both share the passion and perspective necessary for introducing this already respected collection of South Australian wines to the world. “For us, it’s more than a business – it’s our passion. What’s even more special is seeing our children, the next generation, working together to grow and nurture RockBare.”

Riesling 2019

Pale straw, with a light green hue. Bright and fragrant, with classic fresh cut lime & lemongrass notes, alongside a subtle hint of wet slate. Floral and refreshing, blossom and zest of lime dominate the palate, with secondary notes, akin to the pastry  case of a lemon tart. This is derived from the lees contact and helps to complex and balance the mid palate. The wine is crisp and dry, with a beautiful zing of grapefruit like acidity to its’ finish. Enjoy with a big bucket of king prawns whilst sitting on the coastline, or perhaps a lovely rich Thai beef curry.

Chardonnay 2018

A pleasant palate of citrus fruits, nectarine, green mango and honeydew melon. Bâtonnage stirring for several months has added texture to the palate, creating a balanced wine with a slipper y mouthfeel. A gentle ginger spice and slightly creamy finish is heightened by the perfectly integrated French oak. Delicious with grilled calamari with a side of freshly picked salad leaves or a creamy chicken Fettucine Alfredo.

McLaren Vale Shiraz 2017

Approachable, graceful palate of mulberr y and blueberr y compote. Up front, juicy flesh of plum with underlying notes of chocolate coated coffee beans, mint, black pepper, and a hint of earthy truffles. A solid backbone of supporting acidity extends these characters towards the finish. This medium bodied wines’ great acidity and soft tannins allow a beautiful match to Korean Barbecue meats, and are also a fantastic pair with spicy Chinese cuisine.

RB1 Barossa Shiraz 2016

A medium bodied wine, but still with distinctive power and concentration of refined primary fruits. Fantastic lively & textural tannins, supporting the fruit, right through to the finish. Well suited to a rare roasted saddle of venison, or try with a premium cut of rare dry aged beef. Also compliments a good vintage cheddar.
