VOYAGE TO THE EDGE OF THE WORLD
The history of grape growing in the Marlborough region dates back to the late 1800s, but it was in 1986 that Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 'leapt' onto centre stage capturing international interest and becoming the focus for wine connoisseurs and consumers alike. The unique terroir of the Marlborough region features a variety of soil compositions. These vary from alluvial free-draining, to a more clay/ loam soil as found in the Southern Hills or a silt/loam combination as located nearer to Cloudy Bay and the sea.
Meet Ruud Maasdam, intrepid winemaker and what we like to call a modern-day wine adventurer
Wine crazy since his teenage years, Ruud’s journey to Marlborough, New Zealand was fuelled by a deadset conviction that it was the best place in the world to grow grapes and craft extraordinary, eclectic wines. Ruud is a boutique winemaker and the founder of Staete Landt wines.
